As the celebrity glam squad has long noticed, a change in brows can make a huge difference: from new-album-era Miley Cyrus to bleached-brow followers Julia Fox, Kim Kardashian, Dua Lipa, Lady Gaga and Bella Hadid. Now, Jenna Ortega has chosen the bathroom beauty cabinet must-have.
Appearing at CinemaCon in Las Vegas yesterday, the actor hit the red carpet in a Scooby Doo-esque Daphne purple Versace short suit, a funky printed shirt and thick-soled lavender heels—a far cry from her usual vampire glam.
But it was her beauty choice that really made the biggest difference: Ortega debuted her newly bleached brows, and they looked almost unrecognizable. The brows contrasted with her cherry-coke-colored jet-black hair, making them even more dramatic. She wore her long straight black hair slightly parted in the middle, while the rest of her makeup consisted of dark smoky eyes, thick black mascara, and taupe lip liner.
As her makeup artist Vincent Oquendo shared on Instagram, the look was inspired by a modern version of Faye Dunaway, leaning into Ortega’s evening-chic ’70s style.
It looks like the bleach didn’t stay on too long, creating a more Gaga-esque platinum look, while Ortega’s look looked like a golden brown.
Ortega continues to promote her latest film, the A24 comedy-horror Death of a Unicorn, while anticipating her upcoming Netflix series Wednesday, which is set to return in 2025. Lately, Ortega has been working on her goth-tinged “method glam” look, thanks to Oquendo.
In recent appearances, she’s shown off her love for burgundy lips and what Oquendo calls the “unicorn blood lip,” which is tinted purple around the lip line and blooms into a richer rust red on the pillow portion of the lip.
Whatever Jenna Ortega’s next beauty move is, expect it to be influenced by the night.
