Kristin Davis Checks with SJP on Outfits

by Tina

Kristin Davis has revealed the sweet reason why she always asks Sarah Jessica Parker how she’s doing before they go out together.

The 60-year-old actress plays the character of Charlotte York on Sex and the City and its spinoff, Flipped, and has been working with the famously stylish Parker since the late 1990s.

On a recent episode of the Sex and the City recap podcast, Are You a Charlotte?, York revisited the season 2 premiere, Take Me Out to the Ballgame. While watching the show, she commented on how Carrie Bradshaw (Parker) was dressed too formally for the game.

However, the moment became a learning experience for her.

Davis noted that Carey’s clothing choices are “very important,” explaining that she “basically said she doesn’t care if she’s dressed up because it’s more important that she looks nice in case she runs into someone big (Carey’s then-ex-boyfriend). But overall, it’s important that she doesn’t care if she’s dressed up.”

“Knowing that is important for life and for the show,” she continued.

The actress noted the similarities between Carey and Parker, saying, “I always have to stay in touch with Sarah Jessica.”

“I need to know what Sarah Jessica is wearing to our different events because she might dress a lot more formally than I think she would, and I don’t want to be out of sync with her,” she said.

While dressing up isn’t always exciting for Davis, she noted that getting in costume for the show can be “fun,” adding, “It makes you feel good to dress up.”

“In life, I barely dress up. So when we’re not working for a while and we go back to work, we put on all our clothes… I love that because I don’t get to do that very often,” she mused.

Davis and Parker reunite for the third season of Just Like This, which premieres May 29 at 9 p.m. ET on Max. The 12-episode series will conclude with a final season on August 14, according to Max.

The specific plot of the new season has yet to be announced. However, the trailer hints at some unexpected twists.

“There’s nothing like a New York summer, when the days are hot and the nights are even hotter. There’s always something new and unexpected waiting for us,” Carey says in the trailer. “Life is like a story we write every day, and when the plot twists, we can choose to start a new chapter.”

While the show focuses on the characters’ love lives, Davis made it clear that Parker is just as interested in her real-life love story. In fact, the actress said her friends might be a little too invested.

“As a single mom, dating is hard. My friends think I should date because life is short,” she told People in February. “Sarah Jessica was trying to get me on a dating app. I was like, ‘Sarah Jessica, I’m going to kill you.’ I was like, ‘Don’t do that!'”

Talking about dating, she said: “It’s not that I don’t want to be in a relationship, I just don’t actively pursue it. Let’s put it this way, but at a certain point, I think you still have to be in a relationship.”
