American tennis star Coco Gauff kicked off the 2025 French Open in style, defeating Australian Olivia Gadecki 6-2, 6-2 in the first round.
The world number two looked every bit the champion in a marbled tennis outfit from New Balance, complete with a matching headband. But before she could officially start her match, Gauff experienced a brief moment of confusion.
The 21-year-old stepped onto the Philippe-Chatrier Court only to find that she had left all her rackets in the locker room. Fortunately, this didn’t bother her at all – she served in her signature style and won the match.
Her look consisted of a halter top and a pleated mini skirt with a marbled tie-dye pattern in a bluish hue. Her manicure matched the azure ensemble, and a pair of off-white tennis shoes slid over and over on the clay court until she won.
Gauff is making waves off the court after her first-round win on Tuesday, with her upcoming collaboration with the fashion world making a splash. The 2023 US Open champion has teamed up with her longtime sponsor New Balance and luxury fashion brand Miu Miu to launch a limited-edition capsule collection that blends sport and fashion.
As part of the partnership, she will debut three custom outfits at select tournaments (not including the French Open) this summer in Rome, Berlin and Cincinnati (where she won the tournament).
Gauff has worn Miu Miu on red carpets, including the Oscars and on the cover of Vogue in 2024.
She said she is excited to grow with Miu Miu. “Miu Miu is a younger brand, and it’s great to grow with the brand,” she told the WTA.
Each look will be paired with a tonal silk zip-up hoodie and sweatpants, and Gauff will also wear a custom version of the iconic shoe, the Coco CG2, redesigned by both brands. The full collection will be available for a limited time starting September 10 (after the US Open).
The day before Gauff’s victory, four-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka suffered a first-round defeat to 10th seed Paula Badosa. Her pink Nike look for the match was inspired by cherry blossoms, from her ruffled skirt to her hair accessories.
The Japanese player and mother plans to return to tennis in early 2024 after maternity leave. “I hate to disappoint people,” she said after the match. “I don’t know what my schedule is for the grass season yet. I didn’t expect to lose in the first round.”
