Many beauty trends focus on enhancing your features. The same is true for the “burnout chick” look, which emphasizes the qualities that traditional makeup attempts to conceal.
The burnout chick look is all about embracing that slightly lazy, lazy feeling you get after a late night. It’s about turning a sleep-deprived 9-to-5 into a glamorous look. (Let’s be honest: we’re all sleepier in the winter.) Why not brighten our sun-deprived complexions, cover up dark circles, and create a look that embraces the naturalness of the season? It’s not goth (although it’s a bit like it).
With modern stars like Gabrielle and Lily-Rose Depp rocking dark, sexy looks, deep under-eye shadows are becoming a mainstream beauty trend. Burnout chick makeup is especially relevant in the cold, gray skies of winter, when the dream of a summer goddess glow seems unattainable. Lara Violetta, content creator and founder of Violet Papers magazine, captured the feelings of many social media users about the burnout look in her recent Instagram Reel series.
In the video, Violetta teaches you how to create the burnout look: She chooses nude lipstick and blush, and focuses the color on the darker area under her eyes. She also gets creative with her makeup, applying a light pink Mac lipstick on her lids to create the look of rubbing her lids after waking up.
She uses Haus Labs concealer as mascara, which makes her eyes more delicate and brings out her fair skin and soft tones. By the end of the short video, Violetta has deep-set eyes and a fair complexion, which makes her look a bit like a Tim Burton character. She definitely takes the burnout look to the extreme, but the overall look is refreshing, especially because it breaks the traditional “concealer” style of “beauty”.
