London-based luxury skincare brand 111Skin unveiled its newest product Wednesday afternoon: an SPF 50 sunscreen that also packs a ton of skin benefits. While the brand’s sunscreen products are already available internationally, the new formula is 111Skin’s first in the U.S.
Since it’s a mineral sunscreen, it uses a physical filter, zinc oxide, to block harmful UV rays. Other key ingredients focus on strengthening the skin, like antioxidant-rich white mulberry extract, which fights pigmentation and brightens the complexion; polyglutamic acid, which boosts hydration; and NAC Y², a proprietary 111Skin complex that promotes skin regeneration and repair (also used in the brand’s popular serums); among others.
“We set out to create a highly effective sunscreen that would not negatively impact the efficacy of skincare products,” said 111Skin founder Yannis Alexandrides, MD, FACS, a triple-board certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon, in a statement.
In fact, it does the exact opposite.” The new formula, designed to meet specific FDA regulations, took six years to develop. It’s available now on the brand’s website and will be available at retailers worldwide starting June 12. A 50-milliliter bottle retails for $130.
The best way to apply the sunscreen, surgeons advise, isn’t much different than your regular method: Apply a thick layer to your face and neck 15 to 20 minutes before sun exposure, after moisturizing. If you’re wearing makeup, apply it before any makeup.
