I have fine hair and an oily scalp, which means I wash my hair more often than I’d like. I usually have to wash it every two days, or even every three days if I’m lucky. So for me, dry shampoo isn’t just an option, it’s a necessity.
Over the years, I’ve tested countless dry shampoos, trying to find a rough formula that absorbs oil and sweat without leaving a chalky residue, turning my hair gray, or making my usually soft strands feel like straw.
Some shampoos are great, while others are horrible. However, Ouai’s new Ultra Dry Shampoo might just be the best one ever.
I know that’s a bold statement, but it’s true. I had the pleasure of trying out this relaunched formula created by celebrity hairstylist Jen Atkin. (It recently returned to stores and online after a hiatus.)
A few days in, my hair has never looked better, or smelled better. Oh, did I mention I’m now on day four? Read on to find out why I, a self-proclaimed dry shampoo expert, highly recommend Ouai’s new dry shampoo.
The results can only be seen in person. Here’s a photo I took of my hair four days after my last wash. Aside from some frizz and some grown-out highlights, I’m pretty happy with how it looks now. Normally, I wouldn’t dare post a photo of my day-four hair online.
Ouai’s new Super Dry Shampoo comes in two versions. Both are effective at absorbing excess oil and sweat, but they each have a different scent. The first version has the brand’s signature Melrose Place light scent.
The fragrance is soft and delicate, blending notes of rose, bergamot, lychee, white musk, and champagne. To me, it gives off a grown-up, rich-girl vibe.
As for the formula, it’s suitable for all hair types and textures. Thanks to a blend of rice starch and micro starch, it absorbs oil and sweat and delivers lightweight volume—without drying, graying, or leaving any chalky residue. I was truly blown away by the formula. I’m not kidding when I say my hair has never looked shinier, especially considering I haven’t washed it in four days.
While the Melrose Place fragrance is a classic, I’ve recently been obsessed with the brand’s new Cape Town fragrance. If I had to describe it in three words, they’d be “fresh,” “clean,” and “spa-like,” thanks to notes of ginger, spearmint, green fig, and basil. I’m not the only one who thinks so.
The first time I used this fragrance, I immediately went shopping. Two strangers told me how great I smelled when I was out and about and asked me what fragrance I was wearing. Imagine their surprise when they discovered it wasn’t perfume, but rather, my no-rinse shampoo.
