It’s been 22 years since Diana Ross graced the Met Gala with her iconic style, but last night, at the 2025 Met Gala, which celebrated Black fashion, the legendary singer made an epic comeback. Ross’s red carpet look tonight was both gorgeous and personal: She wore an ethereal white gown covered in crystals and beads, with the names of her children and grandchildren embroidered on the 18-foot-long train.
The stunning design Ross wore to the gala was a collaborative effort between Ross, her son Evan, and Nigerian designer Ugo Mozie. Together, they wanted to carry on Ross’ family legacy through a tailor-made design that was presented in exquisite style. The embroidery featured the names of her children—Rhonda, Tracee, Chudney, Ross, and Evan—as well as her eight grandchildren—Raif, Callaway, Everlee, Leif, Indigo, Jagger, Bronx, and Ziggy.
For her second look of the night, Rose donned a seersucker, beaded, purple and black tulle gown for the indoor festivities. Turns out, Rose designed the gown herself. The inspiration? Her look in the 1975 classic film Mahogany. (Ross also designed her gorgeous gown in that film.) The gown was the perfect match for Zendaya’s white Louis Vuitton boxy suit, as Mahogany was inspired by that film.
Last night marked Rose’s fifth Met Gala appearance. Her first was in 1978, when she attended with legendary designer Halston. Since then, the singer has continued to bring her signature glam to the Met Gala stage, most notably in 2003, when she wore a flowing red Gucci gown. However, this year her elaborate gown stood out as one of her most glamorous—not to mention unforgettably sweet—ever.
