To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Le Vestiaire des Parfums, the iconic fragrance line of Yves Saint Laurent Beauty, the brand has reinterpreted the iconic fragrance line and focused on the essence of the brand’s DNA. Muse is the protagonist of the relaunch, with a sensual scent that will inspire the wearer and those around them.
“Monsieur Yves Saint Laurent was constantly inspired by confident, unconventional women – his muses,” Alicia Restino, global fragrance marketing director of Yves Saint Laurent, told L’OFFICIEL in a statement. “They are more than just faces; they are the embodiment of an attitude. This fragrance is an ode to this empowering energy.”
Unlike other fragrances in the line, such as Capeline, Blouse and Velours, which often pay homage to design and couture, Muse explores something more elusive. As such, it “presents a unique challenge,” Restino continued. “Muse encapsulates … the spirit and vision of Mr. Yves Saint Laurent.” A 4.2-ounce bottle of the fragrance retails for $330.
At the heart of Muse is a note rarely seen in perfume: an ink accord. Perfumer Marie Salamagne describes it as the “backbone” of Muse. The idea of ink lends the fragrance a deep, smoky scent. “It echoes the ink that Mr. Yves Saint Laurent used to outline,” says Salamagne. “Translating that into fragrance meant creating a scent that was both intimate and skin-friendly, yet bold and unexpected.”
The scent of ink is interspersed with softer, more delicious notes—soft iris and creamy vanilla. “Each ingredient in Muse was chosen like a brushstroke in a painting,” adds Salamagne. “Everything is about creating texture, contrast, and emotion.” The balance between the softness of classic vanilla and the rich mystery of smoky ink elevates Muse beyond the realm of your average designer fragrance.
The result? A deep, sensual vanilla fragrance that doesn’t steal the show, but rather steals the show. It exudes an irresistible mystery that will make strangers turn their heads in curiosity, and will definitely earn you countless compliments when you smell it. After all, that’s part of being a muse.
