It was a big night for Jennie—the singer attended Billboard’s Women in Music event to accept her Global Impact Award. So, of course, she pulled out her best beauty trick—a swipe of red lipstick.
The singer walked the evening’s event’s powder blue, not red, carpet in an off-the-shoulder, sweetheart-neck, hot-red bodycon dress by Zuhair Murad embellished with tiny crystal beads.
She also wore platform black heels, but kept the rest of her accessories simple—no bag (where did she hide her lipstick for touch-ups?), but a Uniform Object necklace with a gold chain and ruby pendant, a delicate gold bracelet, and a few large, well-chosen gold rings.
Always a fan of glam ensembles, her nails were a gilded, updated version of a French manicure, with thick, gold textured bands adorning the fingertips. Her long, dark hair was left loose, straight, and smooth.
Jennie kept the rest of her glam minimalist too – her signature glassy skin, a touch of rosy blush to create a fuller flush, and a swipe of black eyeliner. Red lipstick paired with a matching lip liner to create a precise, exaggerated cupid’s bow. Her lip skills were showcased in countless big smiles and laughs on the red carpet.
Jennie came up with the “red lip theory” before the rest of us, and has a pretty good idea of which deep, gorgeous red will suit her skin tone best. Basically, your brain is drawn to the red color of the lipstick and ignores finer details like spots or textures on your face (which Jennie doesn’t seem to worry about).
But for the rest of us, a single coat of red can leave the rest of the skin completely bare while still looking like she’s wearing full makeup. “It evokes the strongest reaction of any other color,” said Alexis Androulakis of Lipstick Lesbians in a viral TikTok video.
The theory comes from the book Face Paint: The Story of Makeup by legendary makeup artist Lisa Eldridge. Is Jennie a student?
Last year, the Ruby and Blackpink singer appeared in a campaign for Korean beauty brand HERA, wearing the brand’s Rouge Classy lipstick in the satin-matte “Seoul Red” shade.
She posed for photos on the red carpet and inside the venue with other honorees and presenters, such as Tyla, Gracie Abrams, Kali Uchis and Doechii. It was a night of glamour and excitement for the girls.
