Doechii made her 2025 Met Gala debut on Monday (May 5) with the Louis Vuitton logo on her face.
She wore head-to-toe LV, from a blazer and vest printed with the brand’s monogram to slim shorts in the brand’s checkerboard Damier print to a mini Speedy bag.
She told Vogue Live co-hosts Teyana Taylor and Ego Nwodim that she collaborated with Pharrell Williams, co-chairman and creative director of menswear at Louis Vuitton this year, on her crisp look, which was “heavily inspired” by Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book, Slaves of Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Looks of Black Diaspora Identity; the book also inspired this year’s Met Gala theme, “Ultra-Sophisticated: Black Tailoring in Style.”
“We researched the character of Julius Soubise a little bit, and he really stood out to me,” Doechii said. “I was a little nervous, but it felt really good. It’s one of the biggest nights in fashion, and it’s so black, so here I am. Here I am.”
Nwodim cheered on the 26-year-old MC, who became the third woman to win the Best Rap Album Grammy this year, and she presented the trophy to Nwodim for her acclaimed 2024 mixtape, Alligator Bites Never Heal. “I was inspired by the theme of ‘Students of Hip Hop,’ and I thought it was great, very inspired by the theme of tonight,” said the rapper, who performed “Denial Is a River.”
Pharrell, A$AP Rocky, Colman Domingo and Lewis Hamilton served as co-chairs, with LeBron James serving as honorary chair. (James announced at X that he had to cancel his performance due to a season-ending knee injury.) Doechii is part of the Costume Institute Gala’s host committee, which also includes Tyla, André 3000, Usher, Janelle Monáe and others.
