When it came to creating her “sexy island look,” former Victoria’s Secret Angel and supermodel Helena Christensen broke with the norm and made a surprising change in her makeup look.
Instead of applying her cult product “Merit Flush Balm” to her cheeks, she applied it directly to her eyelids.
“I like to put something on my lids to enhance the natural shadow of my eyes,” Christensen shared in her recent Vogue Beauty Tips tutorial, dabbing burgundy eyeshadow with her fingers. “[This blush] really makes your eyeshadow stand out.”
Sadly, the color Christensen used in the video, Merit, has been discontinued, much to the disappointment of loyal fans. However, Postmodern, described as a “deep pink brown,” comes pretty close — and it only costs $30.
Christensen’s unique technique also proves that makeup doesn’t have to be used for its singular intended purpose, which reminds us of Salma Hayek’s trick for covering gray hair.
“I love makeup. I love color, and I think it’s so great to be able to paint a little painting on my face,” Christensen adds.
If you want to emulate her artistic approach, simply scoop up the creamy eye cream on your fingertips and use your fingers to blend the product all over your lids.
You might be wondering why she doesn’t use a makeup tool when applying her makeup? “I use my fingers for almost all of my makeup. I find it much easier than using a brush,” Christensen shares.
No need to worry about irritating the delicate, sensitive skin on your eyelids. Also favored by big names like Lily Collins and Sarah Jessica Parker, this eye cream is fragrance-free, vegan, and has added vitamin E for effective hydration.
“It’s lightweight, creamy, and the color is buildable, leaving me with a beautiful, healthy glow,” writes one five-star reviewer.
Customers also love the pocket-sized gold packaging, which is both pretty and easy to carry. Plus, it comes in 13 shades, including a pale pink Stockholm and a warm terracotta.
