New Balance and Miu Miu’s collaboration on the old 530 flat-soled sneaker sparked a wave of similar sneakers.
Overnight, everyone was chasing the New Balance and Miu Miu style. The Miu Miu-ification of sneakers was a reality.
Now, even New Balance has released a shoe that bears a clear resemblance to the Miu Miu collaboration. It’s the New Balance 204L.
The 204L is made of sand suede and has a silhouette that pays homage to New Balance’s classic sportswear, and its design DNA is exactly the same as Miu Miu’s past collaborations with New Balance.
The shape, the sole, the fusion of street and runway style… it’s all there. But the price is well below four figures.
The sneaker industry is in the midst of a low-key frenzy. From fashion luxury brands to established sportswear giants, brands are rushing to flatten soles, tone down color schemes, and incorporate a touch of soft, runway-inspired minimalism into their designs.
The 204L is part of this sea change. Its muted color palette, gentle curves, and understated shape echo the ripple effect left by Miu Miu’s stylish take on the NB 530, which arguably sparked the change.
Retailing for between $100 and $200, rumors of the 204L’s release have been circulating online for a while. However, we’re still waiting for an official release date.
