Donald Glover knows how to turn his wildest dreams into reality—whether it’s a Childish Gambino project, an Atlanta series, or the debut Moncler Genius collection.
After debuting his Moncler collaboration at Moncler’s “City of Genius” event in Shanghai last fall, the ever-progressive creative powerhouse has unveiled his Moncler collaborations.
Glover has taken the helm, infusing some of Moncler’s most striking silhouettes with a Southern California summer and infusing each piece with the orange-tinged Olympian energy of his in-house Gilga Farm creative team.
While the vibrant hues are striking at first glance, with bright orange popping against cream, blue, and pink, it’s actually functionality that’s at the heart of this collaboration.
With Gilga Farm’s motto being “The world revolves around your practicality. Use your practicality to make yourself real,” Glover’s Moncler Genius presentation put practicality first.
“Functionality is key – it’s the nexus of the Gilga and Moncler worlds, we both create for real-world practicality,” Glover explains of the collection’s guiding principle, harking back to Moncler’s earliest designs when crafting the new collection.
“The sleeping bag was one of the first products Moncler produced, which inspired our sleeping bag jacket, but also spawned a range of summer garments built on practical values,” Glover continues, referencing the collection’s centerpiece: a hero down jacket that transforms into a sleeping bag.
Other jacket styles include a suede jacket with the Gilga Farm emblem on the chest, and a lightweight nylon ripstop windbreaker.
For footwear, the duo teamed up to create the Moncler Trailgrip Vela sandal, which features a Vibram sole for rugged durability.
Moncler’s mascot, Monduck, has even been reinterpreted as a farmer to fit the character.
