The Cannes Film Festival banned see-through dresses and long trains on the main red carpet, but that wasn’t enough to stop the trend of revealing at all other events held near the Croisette in Cannes, adjacent to the festival.
Charli XCX was as daring as ever on Sunday night, wearing a see-through dress to the Kering Women In Motion 2025 Awards and Cannes Film Festival President’s Dinner, which celebrates the creativity and influence of women in the film industry.
The pop provocateur went braless for the exclusive event in a daringly transparent Saint Laurent gown. She accessorized it with a dramatic purple feather cape that doubled as a train.
The dramatic look, designed by Chris Holland, perfectly blended sex appeal with old-school Hollywood glamour. Charli XCX wore her signature long black hair down and accessorized with minimal jewelry: just a pair of drop earrings. Her strappy stiletto sandals peeked out from under her sheer skirt.
Created in 2015 by luxury group Kering, the Women in Motion programme at the Cannes Film Festival aims to highlight the contribution of women in the film industry, providing a space for dialogue, recognition and celebration.
While the programme aims to honour trailblazing women behind the scenes, Charli XCX reminded everyone that pushing boundaries on the red carpet – or in this case, at the gala dinner – is still her style. She made sure all eyes were on her in a Saint Laurent gown.
Known for her daring nude looks long before the nude resurgence, Charli has never shied away from any daring fashion moment. Her see-through look was certainly eye-catching, given the festival’s recent ban on sheer dresses on the official red carpet.
But it turns out that the rules don’t seem to apply to after-hours events – and the 365-day party girl knows how to play with that grey area.
Known for never compromising, Charli XCX once again proved that she’s as daring with her fashion as she is with her voice. Clearly, nude is still big at Cannes.
