Swiss watchmaker Longines first launched the Zulu Time in 1925. It was the first watch in history to display the local time and the time in a second time zone on the same dial, making it easy for pilots to read the time in both places.
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Zulu Time, Longines launched the “Spirit” Zulu Time 1925 Pioneer World Time Zone 100th Anniversary Watch Set to commemorate this milestone.
“Zulu” comes from the letter “Z” in nautical terms. In aviation and military fields, “Z” stands for Coordinated Universal Time.
The first dual time zone watch launched by Longines in 1925 was decorated with the four-color “Zulu” military logo at 12 o’clock on the dial.
At that time, the Art Deco trend was popular. This watch has a unique square case.
In 2020, Longines launched the Spirit Pioneer series of watches inspired by the adventurous spirit of pilots.
In 2022, the series incorporated the Zulu Time dual time function and launched the Spirit Zulu Time Pioneer series world time zone watch, which immediately became the most popular watch in the Spirit Pioneer series.
This year, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Zulu Time, the Spirit Zulu Time 1925 watch is equipped with a rose gold bezel and a transparent case back for the first time, and the number “1925” is hidden on the dial, paying tribute to the classic.
Longines uses a unique metal ratio of 75% gold, 20% copper and 5% gold to create a unique 18K rose gold case. Its color is copper, which is softer than ordinary rose gold.
This unique rose gold material echoes the prime meridian (zero degree longitude) marked with copper wire when the Royal Observatory in Greenwich was established 350 years ago.
In addition to the 18K rose gold bezel, the Spirit Zulu Time 1925 watch also features rose gold on the dial scale, digital hour markers and outer edge of the hands, which contrasts sharply with the matte black dial and improves readability.
In addition, the Spirit Zulu Time 1925 is also the first watch in the Spirit Pioneer series to be equipped with a transparent case back, through which the exquisiteness of Longines’ exclusive L844.4 movement can be seen at a glance.
The rose gold automatic dial is engraved with a flat celestial map, and the unique design of the original meridian passing through the center of the celestial map is restored, echoing the historical origins of the Zulu Time world time zone.
