Megan Thee Stallion is no stranger to shying away from a bold red carpet moment. Known for her daring high-fashion looks that fall somewhere between performance art and daring risk-taking, the rapper often works with designers who love drama and occasionally embrace a less-is-more philosophy, especially when it comes to fabrics.
Whether the former L’OFFICIEL cover star is wearing latex or a plunging silhouette, Megan’s style celebrates her figure rather than hides it. She did just that at the fourth annual Gold House Gala in Los Angeles on Saturday night—this time, she stunned in a completely nude, see-through gown.
For the event, Megan wore a custom-made sheer black lace gown by New York-based label Quine Li. The gown was inspired by the traditional Chinese cheongsam—a form-fitting, one-piece dress that features a Chinese-style stand-up collar and floral motifs. But this wasn’t just any nod to heritage — sculptural elements that elevated the bust and hips, thigh-high slits, and a completely sheer lace bodice paid homage to cultural symbols while tapping into the nude dress trend.
At the event, Megan was honored with the One House Award. The award is held annually by nonprofit Gold House and honors Asian Pacific Americans for excellence in industries like entertainment, fashion, and tech. The rapper was honored for her creative partnerships and support of the Asian American community, and her reverent yet bold look embodied that spirit.
Speaking to CNN, designer Quine Li, a recent FIT graduate, clarified that the look wasn’t about cultural appropriation, but rather a celebration. “It was a great opportunity to feel proud of Asian culture, especially in America,” she explained.
Megan echoed that sentiment in her acceptance speech, emphasizing the deeper meaning of her attendance at the ceremony. “My respect and appreciation for Asia-Pacific culture extends far beyond music to other areas such as fashion, food, and of course, anime,” she shared, highlighting her admiration for the evening’s group of honorees.
