My eyebrows and I have been on a journey. Growing up in the 2000s and 2010s, I wasn’t a big fan of plucking them (I’ll always love threading), but I was easily swayed by whatever the latest trend was.
At the time, thin eyebrows, high brow arches, exaggerated brow shapes, and sharp tails were the order of the day. Looking back at my college photos now, I can’t help but feel a little uneasy about the few twig-like brows around my eyes, which reminded me of the popular brows in MTV music videos and my favorite TV show at the time, The O.C.
As I got older, I tried more brow shapes, but it wasn’t until the lockdown that I finally found the one that suited me best. When beauty salons were closed, I took the opportunity to grow my eyebrows and quickly learned that I should follow my natural shape rather than deliberately sculpt a new one. I also realized that thicker eyebrows suited me better than the sparse eyebrows I had in my teens and early twenties.
Although I love thick brows, I’m not a big fan of brow treatments like brow lamination, because sometimes I like my brows to be a little flatter. So, I’m always on the lookout for products that make it easy to create thick, fluffy brows. Recently, I stumbled upon the best one I’ve ever used: L’Oréal Paris Infallible Brow Lamination Gel.
The brow gel claims to give you salon-quality brows at home, and I was immediately hooked. The next morning, I took the silver tube home without hesitation to try it out. I focused on the thicker part of my brows at the front and ran the brush through them, watching the bristles grab each hair and sweep them upward.
I ran the brush through the rest of my brows, and with each stroke, it seamlessly adjusted my brows to whatever position I wanted them to be. I especially like that the brush is angled slightly, which makes it easier to apply to each hair without accidentally getting the pencil on my skin.
I’ve used a lot of brow gels over the years, and many of them make my brows look a little “pointy.” But this formula creates fluffy brows, which is exactly what I like. And, unlike other brow gels, it doesn’t dry down to a stiff texture, which means you have time to move your brows around and, more importantly, during the day without that tight, “crunchy” feeling.
At the end of the day, when I went to wash my face, my brows were still firmly in place. Even if I had just been out in the hot weather or dancing all night at a wedding, my brows stayed put. And, there was no white residue or flakes on my brows like I often do with other products.
Despite the small size, one tube lasts a long time. I don’t use much, so I always quickly refill it in my makeup bag. If you want to try this kind of maintenance-free brow shape, you may want to give it a try.
