After surviving another cold winter in England, my most recent vacation in downtown Las Vegas, Nevada, with temperatures reaching over 30 degrees Celsius, was honestly…exciting. In addition to frequenting In-N-Out Burger and visiting some of the fanciest hotels I’ve ever seen in my life, I spent a lot of time walking up and down the Las Vegas Strip. I also often sweated in the sweltering heat.
Whenever I go somewhere sunny, I tend to wear less makeup and opt for a lighter base. But in Las Vegas, with a packed schedule of shows and food to see, I was eager to try out some “makeup”. This meant I had to think carefully about what types of beauty products I would bring to keep my makeup from fading in the desert heat and clinging to my combination skin (hello, oily T-zone). Thankfully, I think I succeeded.
The key to long-lasting makeup is layering. Think about the textures you use (the lighter, the better) and the order in which you apply them. You need to make sure the product is fully integrated into the skin and not sitting on the surface, otherwise any sweat, oils, and other factors will quickly dissolve it.
If you haven’t used setting products like sprays and powders, give them a try. As the name suggests, these products lock in your makeup and help it dry almost completely onto the skin.
Here, I’ve covered the products that have helped keep my makeup intact, from a brisk walk down the Las Vegas Strip to a poolside day in the hot sun…
You may not really stop to think about it, but the first step to making sure your makeup lasts is skin care. After a quick cleanse, I always reach for a hydrating serum and moisturizer due to the dry air conditioning in my hotel room. Waiting a few minutes between applications to make sure it’s fully absorbed before I apply a hydrating sunscreen is key for me.
I’ve tried a lot of sunscreens that made my makeup pill, but this one from Ultra Violette works amazingly well. It leaves my skin feeling soft and supple, absorbs easily, and doesn’t make it greasy. If you haven’t tried it yet, you should.
