Trend alert – buttery manicures, come on! Forget the sheer pinks, delicate nudes and other neutrals you’re used to, it’s time to throw out the seasonal manicure rules and try something fresh and a little unexpected. According to celebrity manicurist Tom Bachik, “buttery” manicures are in for spring.
Bachik has previously created this look for long-time client Selena Gomez, who used a light buttery hue to create perfectly oval nails. You can also create a similar effect at home with Chanel’s Le Vernis Ovni or Essie All Fun & Games, a slightly vanilla-scented polish.
The color was also everywhere on the Spring 2025 runways: from Toteme’s sheer bodycon gowns to Chloe’s bohemian layering to Chanel’s delicate ruffles – everyone was embellishing with buttery hues. Fashion designers usually introduce one or two hot shades every new season! This spring, we’re getting a big wave of buttery yellow. And with that, of course, comes a glam vibe.
The trick to this trend is getting the color right – avoiding unflattering yellows – and making sure it’s the right shade. For buttery nail polish, think cream, not mustard or neon. It’s a nod to yellow without being too over the top. The color brings a hint of vibrancy while remaining understatedly elegant.
With butter on your fingertips, matching outfits is a breeze: it pairs beautifully with neutrals like beige, ivory and black, while also hitting all the fashion marks by pairing it with other popular shades of the season, like chocolate brown, icy blue and the sweetest candy pink.
But like any manicure, applying a wide range of colors to your nails requires skill. Try a variation on the classic French manicure with a touch of pale yellow on your fingertips. Or maybe you can combine the two trends and create a buttery chrome or buttery marble look. Or, opt for something in a similar hue: a delicate daffodil, a few stars or polka dots.
And since the sun’s shine is fickle, there’s an easy way to boost your optimism – just look down at your fingertips.
