Cartier unveiled its latest high jewellery collection, “En Équilibre”, in Stockholm on Monday.
The French jewellery house sought to explore themes of harmony and simplicity through its new creations, which are spread across the collection’s 115 pieces. This led the luxury brand to combine geometric patterns, openwork and wildlife motifs.
Leopards and peacocks, two animals intertwined with Cartier’s signature motifs, appear in two “En Équilibre” (balance) necklaces, showcasing the tension between natural and man-made designs.
Clear sartorial inspirations are also incorporated into the new high jewellery pieces. For example, the Tateya ring, topped with a row of curved diamonds and a 6.98-carat cabochon-cut ruby, evokes the knot of a kimono’s obi.
Rubies, onyx, emeralds and diamonds are set in most of the pieces, injecting sparkle and vibrant colour into the collection.
This sense of push and pull permeates the designs of the “En Equilibre” collection; round cabochons are often juxtaposed with faceted gemstones to create a sense of movement. Potential energy also lies in the photographic style. Each piece is suspended in mid-air by two thin white strings.
“The paradox of refined simplicity is that it creates clear and distinct lines in its simplicity,” said Jacqueline Karachi, Cartier’s director of high jewelry, in a statement.
It is the art of seeing things differently and of creating the right balance. The art of balance, engraved at the heart of our creative approach, reveals Cartier’s sense of harmony.”
