Savannah Guthrie isn’t quite sure what veneers are — but she says she’ll still take good care of her teeth.
During a red carpet interview with Parade magazine on Friday, June 6, the 53-year-old Today Show co-host was asked during some rapid-fire questions if she’s ever had veneers — custom-made shells, usually made of porcelain, placed on the front surface of teeth to improve their appearance.
“What’s that? Braces?” Guthrie asked rhetorically.
“Well, I wear Invisalign,” she continued, referring to the clear braces that come in trays. “What are veneers?”
“I guess not. I might need them, whatever they are,” she joked before ending the interview.
“I gotta go — get veneers!” Guthrie said with a laugh and walked away.
Veneers are one of the most common cosmetic dental treatments, and doctors permanently remove some of the enamel on a patient’s natural teeth to roughen the surface of the tooth and help the veneer stay in place, according to the Mayo Clinic.
GQ reported last year that dental veneers are becoming increasingly popular among celebrities, including Tori Spelling, Bachelor alum Kelsey Anderson, JoJo Siwa and Cardi B, who have confessed to having the procedure done to fix dental imperfections.
Some composite resin veneers cost about $250 per tooth and last about five years, while porcelain veneers can cost up to $2,500 per tooth and last longer, according to the outlet.
Guthrie has shared some hilarious stories involving teeth before.
Last year, ahead of a special Mother’s Day segment on the NBC morning show, Guthrie and her co-hosts Hoda Kotb, Jenna Bush Hager, Dylan Dreyer and Sheinelle Jones opened up to PEOPLE about their close relationship and shared a memorable party moment that ended with Guthrie losing a tooth during a night out at the bar.
“You lost your tooth? Savannah, are you kidding me?” Bush Hager, 43, asked during the hilarious interview. “I felt like I was in the Polar Dive. I felt cheated. I felt cheated by you. She put the blame on me!”
Guthrie did not reveal the specific details of the tooth that fell out. However, when recalling how the tooth fell out, she admitted: “I had no idea, it was still at the Pebble Bar.” Pebble Bar is a popular New York bar located in Rockefeller Center.
“Did you lose it in the bar?” Bush Hager asked, to which Guthrie replied, “I guess so.”
