On June 6, Tribeca Film Festival CEO and co-founder Jane Rosenthal and Chanel hosted an intimate lunch in the Greenwich Hotel courtyard to commemorate “Through Her Lens: The Tribeca Chanel Women Filmmakers Program,” spotlighting the next generation of storytellers shaping the future of film.
Now in its 11th year, the program continues to empower emerging female and non-binary filmmakers through mentorship, industry access, and funding. In her opening remarks, Rosenthal reflected on the evolution of the program, attributing its roots to a shared vision with producer Paula Weinstein.
“What started as an idea between two friends has become one of the most important artist development programs in the industry,” she said, thanking Chanel for its unwavering support.
Patty Jenkins, a filmmaker and Through Her Lens advisory board member, echoed that sentiment: “Storytelling is a huge responsibility… The most powerful thing I can do is what I’ve been trained to do—tell stories.”
The afternoon brought together industry heavyweights including Miley Cyrus, Lily Keough, Olivia Munn, Parker Posey, Carrie Coon, and Laura Dong to celebrate the program’s impact: 45 films developed, multiple premieres at Sundance and the Toronto International Film Festival, and a growing number of alumni who are reshaping the narrative landscape in Hollywood.
