When celebrities have their makeup artists on speed dial, you know they’re doing a great job. That’s the case with Kirin Bhatty, who counts Jenny Slate among her clients.
Bhatty is a skilled artist, and is particularly adept at creating a monolid look, which is a little more complicated than a full-lid look.
The beauty experts at TJ Maxx and Marshalls know that the plethora of makeup tutorials and product launches online often don’t offer the same results when it comes to addressing eye bags. Trying out certain tutorials can be frustrating or confusing because the beauty tricks of their favorite influencer or makeup artist don’t work for them.
But that’s the beauty of makeup—experimenting and finding what works for you. Try every product that appeals to you and create a look that’s all your own.
There are no set rules for makeup; whether you stick to traditional techniques or create a one-of-a-kind look, the key is to embrace who you are and enjoy the process.
Eye Blending Tips: Eyeshadow and Smoky Eyes
Applying eyeshadow to your double eyelids can take some skill, but Bhatty encourages experimentation. “If you’re feeling bold with something — like eyeshadow or glitter — the beauty of double eyelids is that you can apply it directly to the lid and half of it disappears,” she explains.
So you can almost be subtle about experimenting with new glitter or colors.” For a more dramatic effect, Bhatty suggests using an eyelash curler to create the illusion of a bare eye if you really want to make it more dramatic.
Eyeshadow — the shadow beneath your lower lashes — is key to going bold. “You can create a beautiful smoky eye there and play with multiple colors and textures,” says Bhatty. She also highlights the power of cream and liquid eyeliner, especially when working on the inner corners of your eyes.
“I love a textured lid, and eyeshadow in the inner corners gives you almost a doll-eye effect, so everything changes. Every time you blink, that texture shimmers and glitters, which is really beautiful, especially in the inner corners. ”
For bigger lids, she recommends using an eyelash curler to press and blend upwards for a seamless, layered look.
Eye makeup tips: Mascara application
Mascara is a must-have for fine lines around the eyes. “As a line wearer, mascara and eyeliner are my go-tos,” says Bhatty. To brighten up her eyes, she uses a clever eyelash curler trick.
“For fine lines around the eyes, I use the eyelash curler at an angle,” she explains, which can make eyes look bigger. Small changes? Yes, but they can have an unexpected effect. To make lashes look thicker, Bhatty also recommends a hybrid mascara.
“I usually use a regular or waterproof mascara on my top lashes, but I go for a waterproof one on my bottom lashes. ” The right products and techniques will ensure your mascara stays put and your eyes stay beautifully defined all day long.
With awards season here, beauty is already taking shape this year. Bhatty happens to be her favorite awards show, and she thinks it’s the perfect start to spring beauty. She points to the return of “fresh, beautiful, healthy skin” as a major trend, with glowing complexions and bold eyes taking center stage on the red carpet.
Bhatty predicts that lipstick will return this year in the form of moisturizers, so it’s “definitely something to keep an eye on.” She also predicts that shimmery eyeshadow will be a trend this year as time goes on and at the Met Gala in May.
Some of the most iconic beauty looks come from experimentation, and Bhatty embraces that spontaneity. “Makeup should make you feel beautiful, and if you feel beautiful, there are no rules,” she affirms.
This mindset can be especially liberating for women with monolids who might be reluctant to use certain products. “Don’t feel limited. Try different looks, different products, and different techniques.” Spring beauty is all about fresh starts, so why not update your look, too? ”
