As the top event for fashion brands, the Met Gala will focus on showcasing the work of mainstream fashion brands and independent designers at its 2025 event. With the theme of “Extraordinary Sophistication: Black Tailoring Style”, celebrity guests have offered their charm to different brands and creatives, thereby increasing sales and social media influence on the red carpet.
Costume designer Paul Tazewell, who has collaborated with Thom Browne to design Janelle Monáe’s optical illusion dress and Chappell Roan’s pink suit, has benefited a lot from online discussions. According to a report by Trendalytics, Tazewell’s social media accounts saw a 38,471% increase in interaction on the day of the charity gala.
Grace Wales Bonner, who designs for Lewis Hamilton, Tyler Mitchell, Regina King and more, followed the Broadway costumer in second place in terms of social media engagement, up 25,143%. Chanel, designed by stars like Dua Lipa and Jennie, came in third with a 10,317% increase.
Thom Browne, who has created custom looks for more than 15 guests including Lorde and Demi Moore, saw an 85% increase in online resale demand on The RealReal, the highest among designers on the platform.
Demand for Alaïa, worn by Miley Cyrus, and Miu Miu, worn by Gigi Hadid, also increased by 55% and 45%, respectively, after the gala, the luxury resale e-commerce site reported.
Speaking of celebrity influence, Prabal Gurung scored high marks for dressing Diljit Dosanjh. The Indian singer was the celebrity face of the gala, generating $2.8 million in media impact value in 48 hours, according to Launchmetrics. The Nepali designer also dressed Colombian singer Shakira, who generated $2.09 million in media impact value for the gala in the same time frame.
Other highlights from the 2025 gala included Sergio Hudson, who dressed 19 guests, including Stevie Wonder and Rachel Brosnahan, and Louis Vuitton. The French brand teamed up with a host of guests including popular looks from Sabrina Carpenter, Lisa and Zendaya, and its menswear creative director Pharrell Williams, who served as one of the evening’s co-chairs.
