George and Amal Clooney stepped out at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on Sunday, June 8, for the 2025 Tony Awards. George, 64, was nominated for Best Actor in a Play for his performance in Good Night, and Good Luck. The show marks the movie star’s Broadway debut.
For the big night, the couple wore the grandest black tie outfits – George, who dyed his silver hair darker for his Broadway show, is now officially showing off his natural silver hair again.
Amal wore a white, body-hugging beaded column dress with delicate beads adorning each arm. She carried a matching white clutch and her long black hair fell loose around her shoulders.
George wore a classic black tuxedo with his natural silver hair, with just a hint of dark dye on top.
The new stage play Goodnight, and Good Luck is based on the hit 2005 political drama of the same name, telling the story of CBS News reporter Edward R. Murrow’s 1954 unmasking of Senator Joseph McCarthy.
Clooney and Grant Heslov adapted the film for the stage, which is directed by Tony Award winner David Cromer. The film version is directed by Clooney, who co-wrote the script with Heslov.
The play opens Thursday, April 3 at New York’s Winter Garden Theatre and runs through June 8.
The actor dyed his hair a rich dark brown for the Broadway play Goodnight, and Good Luck, and he opened up about the major style change.
During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Monday, June 2, he shared that the first thing he planned to do after his final performance was to fix his “terrible” hair.
“It’s terrible. It’s still dark on top, but it’s grey at the bottom,” Clooney told Meyers, 51, who last dyed his hair two months ago. “So the grey you grow out looks really good.”
However, the Ocean’s Thirteen actor promised his signature look would be back soon.
“The last show is Sunday. We’ll do the matinee and then by the time we go to the Tony Awards that night, it’s sold out,” Clooney continued.
The pair made some more jokes, with Meyers saying his guest looked furtive and like he was “trying to get away from something” in his baseball cap.
“It’s really terrible,” Clooney replied. “It’s like I’m having a terrible midlife crisis. I’m 64 – middle age is kind of hard.”
He then admitted that Amal thought his new look was “hilarious” but also admitted that she was “happy to see it go”.
George and Amal tied the knot in 2014 and have seven-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella. The Clooneys recently moved to New York to support George during his time on the show.
“They love being here,” the actor said during a February appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. “I mean, come on, how could you not love it? It’s New York.”
“It’s actually a good arrangement because you work at night,” he added. “You get to see the kids during the day, so it’s OK.”
While promoting the show on CBS Morning Show in April, George said he and Amal “have a really great life.”
Talking about their twins, he told host Gayle King: “Our kids are 7, almost 8, which is a really great age. They’re really curious and they’re really funny. Every parent thinks their kids are great — our kids are funny and they always make us laugh.”
George then recalled that he had previously told King, 70, in an interview that he and Amal had never argued. “I remember we were here before, and I remember we said we never argued. We still don’t,” he said. “We were just looking for something to do!”
“I feel so lucky to have met this incredible woman,” the actor added. “I feel like I’ve hit the jackpot. There’s not a day that goes by where I don’t feel like I’m the luckiest man in the world. So, it’s awesome.”
The 2025 Tony Awards will air on Sunday, June 8 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and Paramount+.
